Probate and Confirmation
In Scotland, the official name for probate is 'Confirmation' or 'Confirmation of Executors'.
The legal document is often called the 'Grant of Confirmation', 'Certificate of Confirmation', or 'Grant of Representation’. Outside of Scotland, this might be called ‘Grant of Probate’ or ‘Letters of Administration’.
While there are many different terms, most people call it 'probate'.

How to complete the probate process

Close down the estate
This can involve closing accounts, selling or transferring any property, paying out people’s inheritance, and tying off any loose ends.
Use our Estate Completion Checklist to make sure you’ve done everything and fulfilled your responsibilities as the executor of the estate. This might sound scary, but it is usually a relatively straightforward procedure.
If there’s a property involved, you can use our conveyancing partner’s fixed-price service to sell the property, or transfer it into someone else's name.
Join the hundreds of executors in Scotland that have already used our Probate Support Service and been accepted first time.
